The trusted global platform for packaging data – delivering harmonised insights to help you design for circularity and report with confidence.
Packaging data is fragmented, inconsistent, and hard to trust.
The Packaging Data Hub provides credible, harmonised packaging data that’s grounded in local realities and verified by experts – enabling businesses, governments and civil society to confidently make evidence-based decisions that accelerate circularity.
One harmonised, comparable dataset.
Packaging data today is fragmented and inconsistent, leaving teams with large gaps in usable data.
The Packaging Data Hub brings everything together – one harmonised dataset spanning all major packaging materials, formats and markets, built on shared taxonomy, definitions and common metrics.
With consistent data across 75+ countries, it helps brands understand waste systems, design smarter packaging, and make better-informed investment decisions.
Quality data you can trust.
Harmonised packaging data is hard to find – and even harder to trust.
Each dataset in the Packaging Data Hub is researched, regularly updated, and validated by national experts to reflect real-world collection, recycling, and infrastructure performance.
Transparent data quality-scoring and clear methodology notes show how confident you can be in every figure – giving companies, policymakers, and investors the evidence they need to track progress on goals, act strategically, and reduce the risk of inaccurate of misleading claims.
.
Data insights that drive action and accountability.
Good packaging data doesn’t stop at numbers – it drives progress. The Packaging Data Hub turns complex information into clear, ready-to-use metrics that link reporting to decision- making.
Our metrics align with leading frameworks such as CDP, making disclosure simpler and more consistent across markets.
Granular data across materials, formats and markets reveals what is and isn’t working, accurately diagnoses packaging issues, and informs smarter packaging interventions.
We present clear takeaways in dashboards and projections that make it easy to assess performance and see where action will have the reatest impact.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Packaging Data Hub?
A new data platform providing reliable, harmonised and verified data on packaging.
This moves the industry away from fragmented, unreliable and unavailable data by developing
one trusted source of aggregated data. The aim is to empower businesses, governments, and
civil society to make informed, impactful decisions that accelerate the transition towards a
circular economy for packaging.
Why do we need better packaging data?
We urgently need to act on packaging waste and pollution, but poor data holds us
back. Today’s data is often fragmented, inconsistent, or unreliable – especially in regions where
waste systems are weakest. Without high-quality, harmonised data, brands can’t design better
packaging across multiple markets, governments can’t shape effective policy, and investors can’t
target funding where it will make the biggest impact.
Who is the Packaging Data Hub built for?
The Packaging Data Hub is designed for anyone working to improve the sustainability
of packaging or packaged goods. Its insights on recyclability and end-of-life are particularly
valuable to sustainability, design, R&D and compliance teams across the packaging value chain – from packaging producers and FMCG companies to waste managers and policymakers.
Who’s involved in developing this?
Our strategic partners include the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the Consumer Goods
Forum, WWF, the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP), WRAP and CDP. The initiative also
receives philanthropic funding from EIT Food and the Röchling Foundation. Together with these
leading organisations, we aim to make the Packaging Data Hub the trusted reference point for
high-quality packaging data.
The first subscriber brands will be announced soon. Would you like to be involved too? Let us
know.
Where does the data come from?
We source data from the highest-quality datasets globally. The Hub builds on the Plasteax model developed by Earth Action, further augmented with the best country-specific data sources from research. We combine information from global initiatives such as the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP) and data shared by producer responsibility organisations (PROs), recyclers, and local waste associations.
We also gather new primary data from industry partners – including through our core data partner Greyparrot, the leading AI analytics solution for recyclers. This combination of diverse sources and expert validation makes the Packaging Data Hub the most comprehensive and reliable picture of packaging systems available today.
How accurate and reliable is the data?
Reliability and transparency are at the heart of our approach. Each data source is
quality-checked using a scoring system that clearly shows where data is more and less robust.
We’re also rolling out expert validation country-by-country, so you can see how confidence levels
vary and trust that the Hub reflects the best available information.
What data do you provide and when?
We provide quality data on packaging. Specifically, from our formal launch (Q2 2026), we will offer data focussed on plastic packaging covering:
- End of life (recycling rates, mismanagement, collection, leakage, etc) for 75+ countries
- Comprehensive country deep-dives with additional data and expert validation for 5+
- countries
- Data aligned with the priority packaging formats in The EMF Global Commitment 2030.
Over the next year, we will then :
- Roll-out our country deep-dives to 20+ countries, and expand this to individual US states
- Add further metrics for each packaging format, such as recyclability by design guidelines
- and infrastructure.
- Expand into more packaging materials, including fibres such as corrugated paper and
- cardboard
We will continue to expand our depth, coverage, and quality over time.
How can I access the data?
Access is via the data explorer platform. At this stage, this is available only to our
early-access users. We are targeting a full launch in Q2 2026 for standard data licenses. The
Hub includes an open-access data tool for public use, as well as a detailed insights platform for
subscribers who need advanced data for reporting and decision-making.
If you’d like to take part in the early-access phase and help shape the platform, please get in
touch.
A joint initiative by Systemiq and Earth Action.
The Packaging Data Hub is co-led by Systemiq and Earth Action, bringing together decades of experience in circular systems, packaging innovation, and data modeling.
Together, the two organisations have led global initiatives such as Breaking the Plastic Wave, ReShaping Plastics , Plastic Treaty Futures, Plasteax, the Plastic Footprint Network and Plastic Overshoot Day – applying that expertise to create the world’s first harmonised, expert- validated data standard for packaging.
